OurPlace is a vibrant, inclusive environment for young people aged 11 to 17 across Brighton and Sussex who are looking for a different way to learn – one that honours their individuality, their interests, and their right to choose their own path.

Welcome to OurPlace Learning Community

We do things differently. OurPlace is a small, supportive community where you choose what you want to learn and how you want to learn it. You set the pace.

Your Education, Your Way

Whether you want to explore Greek mythology because you love Age of Mythology, or study for your GCSEs, the choice is yours. GCSEs can open doors, but they are not the only route to success. There are no classrooms, no fixed timetable, and no homework unless you want it.

All learning matters here. You might be diving into Shakespeare, cooking, dance, or maths. If you need time to rebuild your confidence, you have it.

A True Learning Community

We meet twice a day to make decisions together. Everyone has an equal voice and the same rights.

Our Learning Advisers help you set goals, create a schedule, and learn how to learn. We prepare you not just for exams, but for life — whether you dream of being a dancer, an astronomer, or anything else.

How the Day Works

The day starts with a meeting to request or offer sessions. These can be group or one-to-one. If you book a session, please attend. If you need to leave, do so quietly.

Because we are small, everyone knows each other.

Rules and Respect

Wear what you like. Use common sense and avoid offending others.

Do not disturb the learning of others. Safeguarding always comes first.

Take part in community meetings and help tidy up at the end of the day.

Phones are welcome as learning tools. If they become a distraction, you can leave them in the office for a break.

We solve problems together, whether through a quick chat, a moderated discussion, or a small judicial committee made up of two students and a Learning Adviser.

OurPlace is a privilege. It is where you can be yourself, free from pressure to pretend to be someone else.
