Mission Statement
At OurPlace – we create a safe, inclusive and caring space for young people who, for whatever reason, cannot or do not want to be in a mainstream school environment.
We offer a setting where young people can be fully accepted for who they are, and where their natural curiosity is not only welcomed but encouraged. Through self-directed and project-based learning, and structured support towards qualifications, further education or vocational training, we help young people grow into confident, capable, lifelong learners.
We are:
OURPLACE
Personalised Learning, Autonomy, Collaboration and Empowerment
Personalised Learning: We tailor learning to each individual’s passions, pace, and preferred ways of working. In a self-directed environment, young people explore what truly matters to them, supported by learning advisers who guide rather than instruct.
Learning through Autonomy: Choice is at the heart of self-directed learning. We give young people real freedom to set their own goals, manage their time, and make decisions about how and what they learn - building responsibility, motivation and self-belief.
Collaborative Empowerment: We grow stronger together. By working alongside peers, learning advisers and facilitators, young people learn to share ideas, take initiative, and support one another - building both confidence and a deep sense of community. Young people are empowered to take initiative, try new things, and create real-world projects that reflect who they are and what they care about.

Life-Changing Shifts Through Self-Directed Learning

“Since joining the provision, he has grown into a compassionate, kind, funny, and confident 15-year-old. He has been able to pursue his interests freely and is now aiming to join a prestigious art school at 16. In fact, the school was so impressed with his portfolio that they noted the work he produced at age 12 matched the level of their current 16-year-old students.”

Parent of self-directed learners -
"Since moving to the previous self-directed college almost 3 years ago, our young person has begun to rebuild trust in education. He attends everyday - without the fears and emotional distress he once experienced."
