A Successful Start!
What an incredible first week! It was truly wonderful to open our doors and welcome all our learners to our temporary space this Monday. The energy has been amazing, and the week has been a huge success. We're so proud of what we've all accomplished together over the past six weeks, and the positive feedback from students, parents, and our team has been overwhelming.
Seeing so many young people leave with a smile on their faces, and a group of happy (and exhausted!) adults, is the best reward. It's clear that we're heading in the right direction, and we feel so confident about what's to come.
Learning in Full Swing
Students have truly hit the ground running, jumping into a wide range of sessions with enthusiasm and curiosity. It's been fantastic to see them taking charge of their learning and exploring new areas.
● Science: We’ve seen incredible curiosity in our science sessions, with learners building on their knowledge of biology, chemistry, and physics. Some have already started their own experiments, while others are working through different scientific theories.
● Maths: Our maths sessions have been a hub of activity. Students are working on everything from foundational arithmetic to more complex topics like algebra and geometry. The sessions are flexible, allowing learners to focus on areas where they need support or push ahead with new challenges.
● Art: Creativity is flowing in our art sessions! Students have been exploring different mediums, from sketching and painting to digital art. It's been inspiring to see them express themselves and produce some truly unique pieces.
● Chess: Our chess sessions have become a very popular spot. Learners are not only improving their game but also developing critical thinking and strategic planning skills. The friendly competition and collaboration have been great to witness.
Key Updates
Unifying Our Cohorts: This week, we successfully transitioned to a unified cohort. The original Cohort Two, which was simply too small to work independently, has now been seamlessly integrated with Cohort One on Wednesdays and Fridays. This decision has proven to be a great success, and it has been heartwarming to see the students from Cohort Two immediately integrate and feel at home within the community.
Welcoming Our New Team Members: This week, we're thrilled to welcome our new staff members, Sarah and Helen, who are joining our team. They are already bringing so much energy and expertise to our community.
Familiar Faces: It's been lovely to have former students popping by to visit us. Their return is a testament to the community we've built. We're now working on a more formal volunteering program and will be reaching out with more information soon.
A Gentle Reminder: As we settle into our routine, please remember that OPLC opens its doors at 9:15 AM. For legal and safety reasons, we are not allowed to let students into the building before this time, whatever the weather. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Thank you for making our first week so special. We can't wait to see what the next week brings!
